While Corona swept the nation, Torikottelei in Helsinki decided to offer the homebound inhabitants of the city a way to socialize without risking anyone’s health. The result was upwards of 830 seats, set up on Senate Square. Senate Square is a giant terrace in the middle of the city.
For this giant project, Production Manager Esa Kandelberg approached JYSK, to inquire whether we’d be capable of delivering tables and chairs for more than 800 people. Luckily, the answer was yes.
Finnish B2B manager Iivari Hovi was up for the challenge:
“Furnishing the giant terrace of the Senate Square was a very interesting project for us due to the large number of products and the urgent schedule. With this experience, I am even more convinced of our capacity to handle even large furniture projects,” says Hovi.
Delivering under pressure
Esa Kandelberg had worked with JYSK on a previous project, and as such decided to contact us.
"We received a request from the organizers of Senator’s giant terrace to make a sizeable piece of furniture according to the plans selected by the interior designer. JYSK was selected as a supplier due to its excellent product catalog and large delivery capacity. Our company's rental furniture had previously included JYSK products, so it was natural to explore the possibility of JYSK as well," says Esa Kandelberg.
The result was an outdoor area with appropriate social distancing for the duration of July and August 2020.
The first month of the Senate Square giant terrace was a success. On the best days, up to 7,000–8,000 visitors enjoyed the summer terrace.
