Mattresses in single, double, king and super king sizes

A mattress is one of the most important pieces of furniture in the home. It is where you start and end each day, so it should suit how you sleep, how much space you need and the level of comfort you prefer. With different mattress types, firmness levels and sizes available, JYSK makes it easier to compare your options and find a mattress that fits both your bed frame and your routine.

The best mattress is not the same for everyone. Some people prefer the responsive feel of a spring mattress, while others like the more contouring comfort of memory foam. A single mattress can be ideal for children’s rooms, guest beds or compact bedrooms, while a double mattress is a practical choice for many main bedrooms. A king size mattress or super king mattress gives more room to stretch out, especially in larger bedrooms.

To complete your sleep setup, pair your mattress with a suitable bed frame, mattress protector, mattress topper, pillows and duvets.

Choosing a mattress becomes easier when you break the decision into a few simple questions. How much space do you have in the bedroom? Will one or two people sleep on the mattress? Do you prefer a softer, firmer or more contouring feel? Are you replacing a mattress for an existing bed frame, or choosing a new bed and mattress together?

It is always worth checking exact measurements before buying. Mattress size names can vary between bed types and markets, so the safest approach is to compare the width and length of your bed frame with the mattress dimensions. If you are unsure, our guide to mattress sizes can help you choose the right fit.

The construction of the mattress also affects how it feels. Some mattresses are designed with springs, others use foam, and some combine several comfort layers. Each type can offer different levels of support, comfort and movement, so it is useful to compare more than just the size.

Spring mattresses

Spring mattresses have a traditional, responsive feel and use a spring system as the main support structure. They are often combined with comfort layers above the springs to create a balanced sleeping surface. This type of mattress can be a good starting point if you prefer a bed that feels supportive and slightly more flexible.

Spring mattresses can vary in construction, firmness and height, so it is important to compare the product details. Some designs may feel firmer and more structured, while others may feel more cushioned depending on the layers used above the springs.

Memory foam mattresses

Memory foam mattresses are known for their more contouring feel. Memory foam responds to pressure and body shape, creating a surface that can feel closer and more stable than a traditional spring mattress. This can be appealing if you prefer a mattress that adapts around you rather than one with a bouncier feel.

Not all foam mattresses feel the same. Firmness, depth, density and the combination of foam layers can all change the overall comfort. Compare each memory foam mattress by its product details, especially if you are choosing between soft, medium and firm options.

Hybrid mattresses

Hybrid mattresses combine different mattress technologies, often using springs together with foam or other comfort layers. This type of construction can be useful if you like the responsive support of springs but also want the comfort layers associated with foam.

A hybrid mattress can offer a balanced feel, but the exact comfort depends on the individual design. Check the materials, firmness and mattress height to understand how the mattress is built and whether it suits your sleeping preferences.

The right mattress size depends on your bed frame, bedroom layout and how much sleeping space you prefer. A single bed mattress is usually best for one person, while a double bed mattress gives more room for everyday sleep. A small double mattress can be a useful in-between size for smaller bedrooms, while king and super king sizes offer more generous sleeping space.

JYSK mattress sizes include:

• Single mattress 90x200cm (3'0"x6'3") – a practical choice for one person, children’s rooms, guest beds and compact spaces.
• Small double mattress 120x190cm (4'0"x6'3") – useful when you want more space than a single mattress but do not have room for a full double.
• Double mattress 135x190cm (4'6"x6'3") – a popular option for main bedrooms, spare rooms and couples.
• Euro double mattress 140x200cm (4'9"x6'6") – slightly wider and longer than a standard double, depending on your bed frame.
• King size mattress 150x200cm (5'0"x6'6") – ideal if you want extra space to stretch out.
• Super king mattress 180x200cm (6'0"x6'6") – the most spacious option for larger bedrooms.

Before choosing, measure the room as well as the bed. Leave enough space around the bed for walking, opening wardrobes and using bedside tables comfortably. If you are buying a mattress for an existing frame, check the internal bed frame measurements rather than relying only on the size name.

Firmness plays a big role in how a mattress feels, but it is also personal. A medium mattress, firm mattress or very firm mattress can feel different depending on the construction and materials used. A spring mattress and a memory foam mattress with the same firmness rating may still feel very different when you lie on them.

Think about the type of support you prefer. If you like a more responsive surface, a spring construction may suit you. If you prefer a closer, more contouring feel, memory foam may be a better place to start. If you want a mix of both, a hybrid construction may be worth considering where available.

It can help to test different mattresses in store and compare how each one feels. Try to think about the mattress as a whole: size, firmness, depth, materials and construction all work together to shape the sleeping experience.

A mattress stays fresher for longer when it is looked after properly. Using a mattress protector from the beginning can help protect against moisture, spills and everyday wear. It is also a good idea to rotate your mattress where the product instructions recommend it, but do not flip it unless the mattress is designed to be used on both sides.

Good ventilation also matters. Let the bed air out before making it in the morning, keep the bedroom well ventilated and avoid trapping moisture around the mattress. Vacuuming gently can help remove dust from the surface, while removable covers should only be washed according to the care instructions.
