A hammock is a nice and cosy outdoor alternative to your typical outdoor seating such as garden chairs, garden benches, and lounge sofas. With added comfort from cushions and throws, sit down and enjoy a cold drink and your favourite book or podcast. It won’t take long before your hammock or outdoor hanging chair has become your new best friend for the outdoor season.

There are many different types of hammocks, hammock chairs, and other similar comfy seating options so which one should you choose? Let us guide you.
The classic hammock for a garden with trees or poles
If you have a garden with trees or poles for suspension, then a classic rope hammock is a great option for you. This type of classic hammock has stood the test of time.
Placement and suspension
If you plan on using the hammock yourself, it is a good idea to place it in a quiet corner of the garden where you can enjoy a peaceful afternoon in sun or shade. If your children are the main users of the hammock, place it centrally where you can keep an eye on them.
Use these guidelines for suspending the hammock:
Distance: The distance between your suspension points (trees or poles) is ideally 4-4,5 meters.
Suspension points: You can hang the hammock between two trees, two poles or one of each. Make sure that the trees are strong and healthy and can support your weight. Also, make sure not to damage your trees by using straps that won’t harm the bark.
Height: The lower part of the hammock should be between your knee and your hip when the hammock is empty. When you lie down in the hammock it will slack another 10-20 cm towards the ground.
The hammock should be low enough for you to get out of without losing your balance. At the same time, it should be high enough for you not to touch the ground with your back when lying in the hammock.
Enjoying the outdoors in a hammock chair
If you don’t have a garden with trees or other suspension possibilities, you don’t have to give up. A hammock with a stand is a great match for both smaller and larger outdoor areas.
One of the benefits of a hammock with a stand is that you don’t have to drill any holes to suspend it. It will add a fun element to your outdoor space, and help you relax from the get-go.

With the BORK hanging chair, you can lean back while listening to your favourite music or podcast or reading your favourite book. The BORK hammock chair comes in three colours: A bright and natural, a black minimalistic classic and a stylish grey that seamlessly complements your other outdoor furniture.
Once you have had your first experience with a hanging chair, you will find it hard to get up and leave it again. To increase comfort even further, add an extra cushion and bring out a soft throw.
Be sure to check that you have the required space for the hammock chair. Some are rather tall, so make sure that there is enough space for it in height. BORK hanging chairs are above 190 cm high and that can be a little challenging if you are assembling them in a narrow space.

A hanging sofa is great for two
While hammocks, hammock chairs or rocking chairs are mainly one person hangouts, a hanging sofa is right for you if you have company in your garden or patio.
For enjoying great moments together, the JUELSMINDE hanging sofa is the perfect match. One of its practical details is the canopy that helps you stay in the shade, so you avoid moving the hanging sofa around too often. Being larger in comparison to most other hammocks and hanging chairs it will be a marvellous centrepiece of your outdoor space and great for entertaining guests. Don’t forget to decorate your space with lanterns and lights to create an amazing atmosphere.
